Description
Hawaiian Red Alaea Sea Salt has a fabulous crunchy texture and earthy flavor. It adds vibrant color to every dish. Alaea Sea Salt was an accident of nature. In ancient Hawaii, on the island of what is now Kauai, red volcanic clay called Alaea “met” sea salt when, during heavy rains, the red clay sediment seeped into the ocean from Kauai’s rivers. When this red ocean water became trapped in tidal pools, evaporation created Hawaiian Red Alaea Sea Salt.

On a trip to Paris, I fell in love. Wandering through a marketplace I stumbled on a small tin of vanilla salt, crunchy and aromatic. I was overwhelmed with excitement, as this was not something available back home in those days. My background as a chef kicked in and sent me into a new creative zone using this amazing flavored salt. Back home, I shared the salt with my students and one thing simply led to another. Soon I was making flavored salt and loving the new journey that little tin of salt had sent me on. Salt led to sugar and soon we were making lots of delicious flavored seasonings and adding unusual sea salt and pepper to our shelves.
