When the restaurant where our founder was the chef closed during the pandemic, she turned to her lifelong love of crunchy, garlicky, and spicy flavors to create her own unique take on chile crisp. With creativity and passion, she developed bold and unexpected flavors that set her brand apart. Fun fact: She funded the launch of The Flavor Society with the prize money she won on The Food Network's Guy’s Grocery Games! Chef Althea Grey Potter has always been drawn to bold, flavorful foods. Her love for spice started at an early age—when she was just a baby, her parents gave her pepperoncini peppers as snacks! That early introduction to heat and flavor shaped her culinary journey and inspired the products she creates today. At The Flavor Society, we certainly didn’t invent hot sauce, chile crunch, or chile crisp. In fact, the origins of hot pepper condiments date back to 7000 B.C., when the indigenous peoples of Mexico first made chile-based sauces to preserve their native hot pepper crops and enhance their cuisine. What we did set out to do is craft condiments that are unconventional, unique, and packed with layers of flavor. We have the utmost respect for the people and traditions that have shaped chile condiments across the world. Our spicy, crunchy sauces are inspired by a variety of global flavors, including Chinese chile crisp, Tunisian harissa, Italian preserved Calabrian chiles, Japanese crunchy garlic chile oils, and Mexican salsa macha—along with many of our other favorite fiery condiments.
