Oolong tea is a traditional Chinese tea that falls somewhere between green tea and black tea in terms of oxidation. It's partially oxidized, giving it a unique flavor profile and aroma. Oolong teas can vary widely in taste, ranging from floral and fruity to woody and roasted, depending on factors such as where it's grown, how it's processed, and the specific cultivar used. The oxidation process for oolong tea is typically between 10% and 70%, which is why it can exhibit such diverse characteristics. It's often rolled into tightly curled or twisted shapes, which can unfurl during steeping, creating an aesthetic appeal in addition to the taste experience. There are many varieties of oolong tea, each with its own distinct qualities. Some famous types include Tieguanyin (Iron Goddess of Mercy), Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe), and Dong Ding. Oolong tea is enjoyed by many for its complex flavors and potential health benefits, including antioxidants and potential metabolism-boosting properties.
