Overview

Description

Orzo, Italian for barley, takes its name from its small grain shape. This one comes from Rustichella d'Abruzzo, the family pasta maker founded in 1924 in Penne, Abruzzo, and now run by the fourth generation in Moscufo, made with durum wheat semolina and water. Where much of the orzo on the shelf turns mushy, this one keeps its shape and texture through cooking, with a pleasant bite after 6 to 8 minutes. It works in soups, as a side dish tossed with pesto, and in cold salads with cherry tomatoes, mozzarella and basil. A steady everyday seller for Italian delis, specialty grocery, gourmet retail and cafes, and a versatile base for prepared-food counters building grain salads and sides. The retail-ready bag fits the pasta set, and the quality difference against standard orzo gives shoppers a clear reason to trade up. Cross-sells with broths, pesto, extra virgin olive oil, feta and mozzarella, and the rest of the Rustichella d'Abruzzo pastina line.
