Overview

Description

The Gayo Arabica Mahkota Indonesia (GARMINDO) Cooperative was founded in 2019 by Sakdan, a longtime coffee farmer and advocate for smallholders. Today, it consists of 625 smallholder members in northern Sumatra, most with less than 1.5 hectares of land. Within the cooperative, a subgroup of women producers has emerged, whose coffees are sold separately and receive an additional gender-equity premium. Women play a central role in the coffee sector here, though systemic barriers remain; this project helps strengthen their recognition and independence. The region of Aceh, where GARMINDO is based, is one of the most dynamic coffee landscapes in the world: smallholder farms reside along volcanic mountain slopes among rainforests and near Lake Taboa, the world’s largest volcanic lake. With over 80% of producers in northern Sumatra being women, GARMINDO’s women’s coffees represent both the heritage of the region and the promise of greater equity in the future of Indonesian coffee. This Fair Trade Organic coffee sings true to what you'd expect Sumatra to be flavor-wise, but with a little sweetness on the end that will keep you sipping down your cup! Repetition CoffeeEstablished 2015

Social responsibility was of the utmost importance as REPETITION grew. Being a good, ethical coffee buyer required forming loyal and lasting relationships with farmers. My travels throughout Central and South America, and Africa gave me the opportunity to meet coffee farmers, assess the quality of coffee beans at origin, and verify that my supply chains were sustainable and ethical. Seeing the agricultural end of the coffee supply chain strengthened my resolve to run a coffee roasting company built on the foundation of supporting others. I also formed relationships with U.S.-based roasters who helped me find reputable importers who specialized in various world regions. What started as a dream in Paris has evolved into a thriving business, bolstered by a growing, hardworking team in Lawrence, KS. At REPETITION, we aspire to uphold our values and deliver to you, our customers, coffee of the utmost quality from vast regions of the world. REPETITION aims to make a difference, one cup at a time, and we couldn’t do it without you. Thanks for coming along. Avec Amour, Amy Pope
